More Than A Body

More Than A Body discusses the experiences, stories, and opinions of those with a uterus on the US Abortion Bans and the Australian Religious Discrimination Bill.

On June 24, 2022, the US Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade, the landmark 1973 Supreme Court decision that affirmed the constitutional right to abortion. In about 60% of states, abortion is now banned, soon-to-be banned or under serious threat. This change has meant that millions of people have lost their reproductive rights overnight and is a direct attack on ALL people with a uterus.

The right to an abortion is basic healthcare.
Criminalising abortion does not stop abortions, it just makes abortion less safe.
Access to safe abortion is a matter of human right.
Criminalising abortion is a form of discrimination, which further fuels stigma.
It’s not just cisgender women and girls who need abortions.
Almost every death and injury from unsafe abortion is preventable.

This collection was displayed at RIOT Collective's group exhibition "Dismal Reflections" in 2022.
RIOT Collective presents: Dismal Reflections, an immersive exhibition exploring body autonomy through the lens of gender.
The recent news about abortion bans in the US paints a dismal picture of a regressing society, something especially frightening for those with the ability to give birth. A lineup of five carefully curated Meanjin-based artists will exhibit bodies of work that are provocative, evocative and thought-provoking, with the intent to start much-needed conversation around this topic.
Accompanying this multi-disciplinary exhibition, artist Greer will be playing an extended ambient set, exploring the realm of soundscapes and how they provoke emotion.
